The Mexican Association of Food Banking, A.C. (AMBA)

The Mexican Association of Food Banking (AMBA) is a Mexican organization that joins 52 food banks giving them the resources and education in hopes of facilitating their mission of feeding the hungry. While promoting an altruistic spirit, we perform as an instrument of the community allowing food banks to provide food to those who need it the most.

AMBA was created for food banking organizations that strive to recover and use all the edible food that would be considered not good enough quality for sale.  We care for those who live in extreme poverty on a daily basis. It is astounding that there are more than twenty million hungry people in Mexico, when every day seventeen thousand tons of food goes to waste and one hundred percent of that food is edible.

The goal of a food banking network is create awareness between producers and distributors to stop the waste of nutritional food products, so the usable food can be sent to the storage facilities and distribution centers. Through a process of selection and classification the edible food is chosen and is intended for human consumption. AMBA provides the guidance in development of these programs and specialized training for the food banking industry.

AMBA promotes the fight against hunger and malnutrition by playing a vital role as a support to the food banking network. AMBA gives food banks a voice in the community while lobbying for them in the federal sphere and establishing national partnerships.
